Clauson, Theodore Richard
75 of Mesa, AZ, passed away on November 13, 2013. Dick was born to T.R. and Iola Clauson in Cherokee, Iowa. He graduated from Sheldon High School, Sheldon, Iowa. He Served his 2 years of military service in Alaska and received his Bachelors' degree from Iowa State University. (Go Hawkeyes!) He married Gloria VandenBerg on January 28, 1955. They enjoyed 49 years together. He worked for and retired from Sears Roebuck & Co., at age 55, after 30 years. Dick and Gloria lived and worked in Iowa, Montana and North Dakota before retiring to Mesa, Arizona, enjoying 17 years with his Las Palmas community. He enjoyed fishing, camping, pheasant hunting, golfing, casinos, horse racing, reading, history, walking, sports on TV, UND Hockey (Go Sioux!), and being baffled by his computer. He was known by many names...T.R., Richard, Dick, Roebuck, Dad, Grampa, and Grampa Great. He is preceded in death by his wife Gloria, his parents, stepmother "Goldie", 3 brothers and 1 sister. Survivors include 4 children - Carol (Garry) Schneck, Fargo, ND; Janet (Douglas) Galle, Grand Forks, ND; Linda Clauson, Mea, AZ., and David (Kari) Clauson, Duluth, MN. 6 Grandchildren - Scott (Sharlai) Ell, Teri Ell, Joel (Melanie) Gall, Kevin Galle, Andrew Clauson and Samuel Clauson, 3 Great Grandchildren - Jordan, Dylan and Alex Galle. 1 Sister - Penny (Bill) Miller, Valley Center, CA. Many thanks to Carol Mertes for being his beloved companion and friend. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 10:30 a.m., at Red Mountain United Methodist Church, 2936 N. Power Rd., Mesa, AZ 85215. Light lunch following service. Burial will be in Grand Forks, ND at a later date. Entrusted to Sonoran Skies Mortuary, Mesa, AZ.
