Hinkes, Thomas M.
86, of Sun City West, AZ passed away on July 19, 2016. Tom grew up in Wauwatosa, WI, attended Marquette University High School in Milwaukee, and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN with a degree in chemistry while lettering in track and field. He was a Patent and Licensing Specialist for the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) for many years prior to retirement. After retirement, he rotated seasonally between homes in Hidden Valley in Argyle, WI and in Sun City West in Phoenix, AZ. More recently, he spent summers in the mountains surrounding Utah State University in Logan, UT. During retirement, he enjoyed fishing, training for his next track meet, visiting family and friends, and traveling extensively with his wife Sandy. He was well known for his deep devotion to his Catholic faith and extended family, and was long recognized as one of the top age group pole vaulters in the world. Tom married Janet (Kuchera), who preceded him in death, and had 3 children: Mike (Donna) Hinkes, MaryAnne (Greg Kesling) Hinkes, and Paul (Joanne) Hinkes. Tom then married Sandra (Fitzpatrick) and happily added her 6 children to his family: Colleen Fitzpatrick, Tom Fitzpatrick, Kate (Paul Kelly) Fitzpatrick, Dan (Cindy) Fitzpatrick, Maureen (Willie Hartman) and Eileen (Fritz Weiland). Tom is survived by his brother Joe (Rosemary) Hinkes, his wife Sandy, 9 combined children, 22 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He joins his parents Joseph Francis and Mary Gertrude (Bolger) Hinkes, and his brothers Dan Hinkes and Jerry Hinkes, in God's loving embrace. Two memorial services will be held on August 20th at 11:00AM at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Sun City West, AZ and on September 23rd at 11:00AM at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Parish in Madison, WI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to and Society of St. Vincent de Paul or your personal choice.
