Rock, Thomas Raymond
passed away at his Scottsdale Arizona home on Sept 7, 2015. After enduring a prolonged battle with lung cancer is now with the Lord. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on Sept. 15, 1934 to John Henry and Clara Rock. Being born a premature baby in that time made Tom a real fighter. His feistiness would be a trait that carried him through all of life challenges. Tom graduated from Cranston High in 1952 and went on to naval military service in 1953 serving on the submarine U.S.S. Cod. One of Tom's greatest accomplishments (outside of his children) was being accepted as a Mid-shipman to Naval Academy in 1954 serving on the U.S.S. Grouper. After military service Tom married and went on to Boston College under the G.I. bill to study accounting. After graduation in 1960 he entered the Public Accounting field working in Boston, New York and Chicago. He began accounting career at Raytheon in Boston then to his position at Coopers and Lybrand in New York .He developed and taught training classes for Coopers and Lybrand. While at Coopers he was sought out by First Chicago Corporation being offered position at First Chicago Corporation in controller capacity. It was at First Chicago he met Deborah, his wife of 31 years whom he loved and was with until his passing. After retiring the family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1992 where he established a small tax/accounting practice. Tom was an avid golfer. He joined Scottsdale Country Club where he met some of his best friends. He loved all things Boston. He got to cheer with his fellow Bostonians when they witnessed the end of the curse of the Bambino with the Red Sox win in the 2004 World Series. He was an active member in his church, City of Grace. Member of AICPA. Thomas Rock was preceded in death by his parents John and Clara Rock and stepfather, John Gill, daughters, Patricia Neinast and Elizabeth and granddaughter, Nichole Ahearn. Tom will be fondly remembered by his wife of 31 years, Deborah and his children, Paul (Lisa), David, Caroline, Thomas (Penny), Brandon (Malorie,) Daniel Ahearn (Gina), Derek Mooney. Tom will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Heather Codner, Trista, Jake, Nicole Tyler, Zack, Christian, Nathan, Michaella, Mackenzie and expected grandson Thomas. As well as his great-grandchild, Zachary and Niece, Shannon Randall (Mark) And his brothers Robert (Pat), Jack, Sister-in-law, Sharon O'Bryan (Michael), Brother-in-law, Donald Gray (Anita), Mother-in-law, Annie Gray. Beloved dogs and will be reunited with recently deceased Lexi and Sarah, and greatly missed by Krypto, Amber and Lulu. A celebration of life will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, September 15th at the City of Grace Church, 9610 E Cactus Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260.
