Torger Hundseid Obituary
Hundseid, Torger
92, beloved husband and father, died May 9, 2016 in Mesa, AZ. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 12:00 pm at the Recreation Hall at Deserama Mobile Ranch in Mesa. Torger Hundseid was born April 19, 1924 in Vikedal, Norway to Johannes and Sigrid Hundseid at his family's farm. He was the second oldest of eleven children and spent much of his early years babysitting his younger brothers and sisters. He always had an interest in business and worked with his brother, Valentin, fixing cars at their own mechanic shop. He met the love of his life, Else, at a dance in Norway and was married to her for over 62 years. As times were hard in Norway, Torger came to America in 1950 with the goal of buying a car and selling it in Norway, where he would've received a year's worth of pay. Unfortunately, a change in the law made this impossible, and he returned to Norway. He came back to America in 1952 and moved to Neihart, Montana where he was a lumberjack and miner. He then moved to Great Falls, Montana where he worked for the Anaconda Company. He later traveled to Hanson Mechanical Trade School in Fargo, North Dakota to get a degree in auto body repair, eventually settling back in Great Falls. He worked for the Nash and Olsen body shops in Great Falls. In 1953, Else joined him in America. They were married October 4, 1953 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Great Falls and had a beautiful wedding put on by the Sons of Norway and AP Anderson Ranch where Else worked. Torger's daughter, Nancy was born in 1955. She was the light of his life. In 1960, he began his own real estate business which became his life's work. He enjoyed traveling and camping with Else and Nancy. Torger also loved to sing and loved music. In the 1970s, Else and Torger become snowbirds, initially traveling from their home in Great Falls to Florida. In 1979, they took their first trip to Mesa, Arizona and fell in love with the climate and the people. Else and Torger loved to dance and would go out several times a week, making new friends. In 2007, they moved from Great Falls and made their permanent home at the Deserama Mobile Ranch in Mesa. Torger was a member of the Sons of Norway and the St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He will be remembered for being a true gentleman with a heart of gold and a work ethic to match. He is survived by his wife, Else Monstad Hundseid of Mesa; his daughter, Nancy (Rolf Helge) Ronneseth of Lillesand, Norway; sisters Eli and Ingrid of Norway, Solveig of Great Falls, Montana; brothers Sofus (Lilly) Hundseid and Harald (Torlaug) Hundseid of Norway and Jens (Betty) Hundseid of North Port, Florida; grandsons Andreas (Melissa) Ronneseth of Tempe, AZ and Marcus (Martine) Holt Ronneseth of Kristiansand, Norway; great-granddaughters Mia and Nora Ronneseth of Tempe, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johannes and Sigrid Hundseid, siblings Valentin, Magne, Anne-Synnove, and Fartein Hundseid, and grand-daughter Heidi Hundseid Ronneseth. The family would like to thank Kathy Mercado, Mary Cay Payette, and Lana Wilcox for their love and care of Torger and Peaceful and Comfort Home Hospice for assisting Torger in his final days.
