Stewart-Malles, Virginia "Ginny" Marie
Ginny Stewart, long-time resident of Mesa, AZ, passed away peacefully on Jan. 25, 2016 after a long struggle with a disability. Ginny was born in Springfield, MN on Feb 4,1959 the third daughter of six children of James M Stewart, a High School teacher, and Kathryn E (Kiehn) Brush, a lab technician. Her family moved to Mesa in 1967 when Ginny was 8, followed by her grandparents, Harry and Lucille Kiehn, owners/publishers of the Lamberton News of Lamberton, MN. Ginny was known to be kind and caring. As a young girl, she excelled at track and field. She attended Hawthorne Elementary, Kino Junior High, Westwood High School, Mesa Community College and Arizona State University where she studied business and accounting. She followed with a 26 year career at Fry's Food Store. Her work ethic and thriftiness made her a valued employee and an astute investor. Ginny's first passion was music. She began playing the piano and violin in elementary school. Her diligence and devotion paid off with a spot in the prestigious Strolling Strings of Westwood High School and the All High School State Orchestra, 1975-1977. Her dream was to join the Phoenix Symphony. Ginny was a hard worker, a good neighbor, and an animal lover. She loved hiking and the outdoors. She visited many national and state parks, notably the Superstition Wilderness, where she enjoyed hiking and photography with good friend, Harry Smith. Ginny's true joy and passion were her two children, Katie and Andrew. She was a devoted and caring mother. For the past five years her best friend, Richard Luscher, was her devoted caretaker. Ginny is survived by her beloved children, Katie and Andrew Malles of Mesa, AZ; her mother, Kathryn Brush of Sioux Falls, SD; siblings Terry Pollard of Sioux Falls, SD; Mary Szymber (Richard) of Las Cruces, NM; Lisa Stewart (Robbie Watson) of Queen Creek, AZ; John Stewart (Deanna) of Stevensville, MT; Christine Stewart-Laube (Peter) of Bloomington, ILL; nieces and nephews Aaron Pollard, Rachel, Christine and Joseph Szymber, Caitlin and Cameron Stewart, and Emily and Benjamin Laube; many cousins; Scout, her loving dog, and 2 cats, Ching Ching and Albert. She was preceded in death by her father James M. Stewart. Services will be held Saturday, Feb 27th at 1pm at Christ the King Church located at 1551 E Dana, Mesa, AZ 85204.
