89, of Mesa, AZ passed away on March 4, 2016. Bud was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Walter and Edith Leidy. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946 where he earned the honor of expert rifleman and played cornet in the Marine Corps Band. He graduated from Indiana State Teachers College and earned his master's degree in music from Penn State University. While in college, he met Lois Mechling who became his loving wife for 63 years. Fresh out of college, he taught instrumental music at Tyrone Area High School, Tyrone Pennsylvania, where he was a cherished teacher. The 1954 Falcon yearbook was dedicated to him for being the "unassuming kind of person who gives his all without thought of personal reward." During this time and for years afterward, he was a member of several symphony orchestras and dance bands. After teaching, he became a sales manager for American Optical Corporation. He and Lois lived in Roanoke, VA, Rockville, MD, Buffalo, NY, and Houston, TX before retiring in Mesa, AZ. He was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing so much that when he retired, he was a greeter at Bass Pro Shops in Mesa, AZ. He was also passionate about travel, art, and music. He was gifted in pen and ink and watercolor medias. He played the string bass in the Leisure Notes, the East Valley Big Band, and the Bud-Harvey Duo to the delight of many people. On numerous occasions, he volunteered at a local music store helping students select their band instruments for the year. He was often found lending a hand to his neighbors and met every person and every day with a smile. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Lois Leidy and his sister Dorothy Henry. He is survived by his children David Leidy of Miami, FL, Don Leidy and his wife Judy of Littleton, Colorado, and his dear friend and companion Dottie Clothier. There will be a celebration of Bud's life Sunday, March 13, 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Springdale Village, Mesa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to the .
