Lt. Cmdr William Carlton Allen

1939 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
Allen, William Carlton
(77); Lt. Cmdr William C. Allen, U.S. Navy (retired), passed away on May 15, 2016, surrounded by his loving wife Bunnie (Bernstein) Allen and his step-children Holly Myers and John Neal and granddaughter Bailye Neal. He is survived by six children, Kelly, Brent, Katie, Melanie, Kim, and Mark, and 11 grandchildren. He was born January 1, 1939 in Long Beach, California to Marie Hall Allen and William Carlton Allen. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1961, went to Nuclear Power School, and served on the nuclear submarine USS Andrew Jackson. When he returned from service he received his MBA from Harvard University. To help find a cure for Alzheimer's for future generations, Bill participated in an Alzheimer's trial at Banner Alzheimer Institute in Phoenix. During the past two years, Bill spent much time at the Foundation for Senior Living's Adult Day Care Center where he spent many hours working on art projects and eating fabulous food. Many thanks for the fun and laughter to staff members Kim, Karen, and Chef from the day care, and Joan, Judith, Kate, and Richard from Phoenix Center for the Arts "With Art In Mind" Program. His final weeks were spent at the Gardner House Hospice facility where he and his family received much love and support. Things Bill loved: family, music, photography, travel, singing, and making people smile, couples group, and his Banner friends. A service for Bill will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of donations, please consider donating time to help Alzheimer's research or making a donation in Bill's name to either Banner Alzheimer's in Phoenix or the Alzheimer's Art Program at the Phoenix Center for the Arts. We wish Bill fair winds following sea and smooth sailings through the pearly gates.
