William E. (Gene) Ewing, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed from this life to be with our beloved Mom in heaven on March 25, 2013. The only child of G.G. and Hila Ewing, he grew up and farmed in Mahaska County, Iowa for many years. He served in the Iowa State Legislature from 1973-1975 and on the Iowa Drug Enforcement Board. Hooey graduated from Oskaloosa High School and attended the University of Omaha prior to his enlistment in the Army in 1944. Dad was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne in the European Theater during WWII. Mom and Dad moved to Arizona in 1979 where they fell in love with this state and all its beauty. For many years he rode with the The Bill Williams Mountain Men, Comancheros and Pony Express. He had the distinction of being the oldest rider ever In the Pony Express. He is survived by his children Carol (Don) , Bill (Monique) and Larry, his four granddaughters, Kylene, Katie, Holly and Sara and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three stepsons and riding buddies, Gene, Jack and Gary, who together rode many a trail and told many a tale in the high lonesome. A celebration of his life will be held at 3703 N. 195th Avenue, Litchfield Park on April 13, 2013 at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Phoenix JCs Comancheros Welfare Foundation.
