passed away peacefully at age 86, on June 13, 2016.Bill was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, a man who loved and followed his Lord Jesus Christ faithfully everyday of his life. He had a kind and loving spirit, a man who never met a stranger. He was papa Bill to his grandkids, moon man to kids at church, and 'my good friend Bill' to others.Bill was born in Rockford, IL to Mevil and Horace Chappell on February 17, 1930. He was the 5th of 7 children. He is survived by his 5 children, Debi Chappell, Doug Chappell, Colleen Jones, Danny Chappell and Carol Williamson, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jean, 3 sisters, 3 brothers and a grandson.Bill grew up in Corning, Arkansas, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, was stationed at Luke Air Force Base where he met the love of his life, Jeannie Rolan. They married in 1953. Upon leaving the Air Force, with 2 kids and one on the way, he attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Using his G.I. Bill, he also shoveled manure and picked cotton to help make ends meet. He worked and studied hard and graduated in 3 years. Upon graduation, he was offered a job with Motorola in Phoenix, AZ, where he worked in finance and accounting in Hong Kong, Japan, California and eventually back in Phoenix.Bill and Jean raised their 5 children in Mesa, Bill was a current member of the Desert Sands Church of Christ. His memorial service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016, 11:00 a.m., at the Mesa Church of Christ, 1223 E. Dana Avenue, Mesa, AZ. 85204.
