Henderson, William H.
passed away from a lengthy illness on November 18, 2012 at the age of 68. He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Geraldine Henderson, his daughter Malikah Marshall, his son William H. (Luciana) Henderson II, and his granddaughters Luana and Hadiya. Bill was preceded in death by his mother Josephine Henderson and Orzie Henderson Sr. He is survived by his siblings Mamie Burge, Chinow Barnwell, Dr. Orzie Henderson Jr., Faye Henderson, Lena Williams and Ronald (Minti) Henderson. He will be missed by a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great- nieces, and cousins. Bill's mother-in-law, Ethel M. Williams and sister-in-law, Mildred Williams will mourn his passing along with by his long time best friends Maurice (Betty) Calloway Sr. and Joseph Johnson. Bill was born in Atlantic City, NJ and his family later moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where he attended Grand Rapids Public Schools. He graduated from South High School in 1963. After high school, he attended Parson's College on a football scholarship. Then he served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War. After receiving an honorable discharge, he earned his bachelor's, master's and specialist degrees. He served deligently throughout the years as a teacher, coach, counselor, and assistant principal for the Grand Rapids Public Schools until he retired and relocated to Arizona with his wife.
Bill's Christian faith prepared him for his journey home. He will be missed but he will be fine in God's presence. A memorial service has not been scheduled at this time. In lieu of gifts and flowers, donations can be made to the Josephine Henderson Heritage Scholarship Fund at the Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan.
