Mautino, William J.
passed away peacefully on April 21, 2016 in Chandler Arizona. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 23, 1923. Bill moved to Rockford, Illinois in 1925. There he spent his childhood years attending St. Mary's Parochial School and then graduated from St. Thomas High School. He enrolled at Notre Dame University and enjoyed two years of study there until his induction into the Armed Forces to serve in World War II. While in the service Bill was selected to participate in the Army Specialized Training Program in Advanced Engineering at North Carolina State University. His tour of duty during the war was concentrated in the Mediterranean region as well as Continental Europe. Upon the termination of World War II, Bill was discharged from Ft. Campbell, KY. As he returned to Rockford he met and married Gina, the joy of his life, on April 23, 1946. They enjoyed a loving and long lasting relationship of 70 years. Also upon his return he became an employee of Dean Foods. His expertise in spray dried milk products enabled him to be a consultant for many firms in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. He likewise served in the same capacity in Japan, New Zealand, Australia, England, Denmark, Ireland and Switzerland. Bill retired in 1987 with the title of Assistant Director of Research from Deans Foods and moved to Tempe, Arizona. Bill is survived by his wife, Gina Mautino and his son, Pastor Bill (Sheila) Mautino of Calvary Church of the Valley, Paradise Valley, AZ. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Adria Young. He has four grandchildren: Teresa Mautino of Maui, Hawaii; Lisa (Michael) Schulte of Lake Stevens, Washington; Mara (Troy) Hayes of Phoenix, Arizona; and Billy (Kelly) Mautino of Gilbert, Arizona. He is survived by four great grandchildren: Siena Hayes, Luke Hayes, Isabella Schulte, and Grace Mautino. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1800 E. Libra Drive, Tempe Arizona 85253. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to his favorite charity: Mother Teresa, C/O Missionaries of Charity, 335 E. 145th St., Bronx, N.Y. 10451.
