William T. "Butch" Riegel Obituary
Riegel, William T. "Butch"
71, passed away peacefully at the Scottsdale Hospital on April 18, 2016. The night before he passed away, he was surrounded by his devoted wife, of more than 24 years, Susie MacLellan Riegel. Mr. Riegel was born to William T. Riegel and Lucielle B. Riegel, on February 10, 1945 in Red Oak, Iowa. While Butch had been known to most as a skilled heavy equipment operator at significant construction projects in the Phoenix metropolitan area, he was also socially active at Scottsdale House. Butch for many years was a very active horseback rider. From his Midwest beginnings he attended Glenwood Senior High School and studied nuclear engineering at Iowa Western Community College. He was a member of the United States Army and he saw action in Vietnam and was stationed in Korea. Butch moved to Scottsdale in 1977. He and Susie were married at Paradise Valley Country Club on February 13, 1993. Mr. Riegel's legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of wife Susie, daughter Patricia Colaianni, brother-in-law Angelo Colaianni, nieces Susan Daily, Angela Riegel, and Vicki O'Malley, mother-in-law Dottie MacLellan, brother-in-law Douglas MacLellan, sister-in-law Nora MacLellan and everyone he came into contact with. His wit, wisdom, expressive smile and compassion that he showed to everyone who met him will never be forgotten. Susie remembers Butch as a patient and loving husband! Memorial Services will be private. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his honor to the Arizona Humane Society. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary.
