Yvonne Wilton Obituary
Wilton, Yvonne
94, of Sun City passed away on November 25, 2015. Yvonne was born on January 21, 1921 in Birmingham, AL to Etta and Fred Tate. Fred died when Yvonne was 9 years old, and she grew up during the Depression. Determined to educate herself, Yvonne attended Lipscomb College and graduated in 1939 with a two-year degree. She moved to New York City and met her husband, Michael, while she was his secretary at a life insurance company. After her first child was born, she was a homemaker, involved in both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, served as president of the PTA, and hosted foreign students through the American Field Service organization. Yvonne was also very active in church activities at Church of Christ in New York and Christian Church in Sun City West. Yvonne returned to college and earned a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from Pace College in 1975 and wrote for the local paper. Her husband died in December 1980 and has been missed by his family. About a year after Mike's passing, Yvonne and her friend June, also widowed, traveled the world together. She was an avid tennis player, square dancer and loved photography. She then had great joy when grandchildren entered her life. She is survived by her children Paul, Genie and Alan; their spouses David and Mako; her grandchildren Kelly, Kara and Katie; step-grandchildren Stuart, Serena, EJ, Janel and Nathaniel. A memorial service to celebrate Yvonne's life will be held at Christian Church in Sun City West on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. You will be missed and heaven is merrier with your presence.
