Kate Harrison Hockett (Wharton), 78, of Gilbert Arizona passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 13, 2014 in Gilbert, Arizona. Kate was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on November 18, 1935 to William and Kate Wharton. Kate graduated from the Women's College at the University of North Carolina (Greensboro), where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics. Kate was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Sorority at the College. She moved to Arizona in 1957 where she married Frank Zimri Hockett on June 8, 1957. They were married for 43 years until Frank's passing in 2001. They were blessed with two daughters Leslie and Laura. Kate loved gardening, golf, travelling and reading and above all she loved her family more than anything. Her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Frank, her parents William and Kate Wharton and is survived by her daughters Leslie Saylor (Bob), Laura Coats (Dean), her granddaughter Christina Jaeckels (Josh), her sisters Rose Chamblee and Billie Cheek (Allan) and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 between 5-8 pm. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 20th at 10 am.
