99, a longtime resident of Litchfield, Park, AZ passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at his home in the La Loma Village Senior Living Community. Joe was born August 7, 1914, on a small farm in Hillsboro, North Dakota to the late Lloyd and Mildred Best. After graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1932, Joe went on to attend Moorehead State Teachers College, studying voice performance. As a talented singer and trumpet player, Joe traveled and performed with several Big Bands in the 1930's including Lawrence Welk Band in 1937. On September 24, 1938, Joe married his cherished wife of 62 years, Frances G. Wilson, at Central United Methodist Church in Phoenix, Arizona. They had two beloved daughters, Nancy Ann and Norma Lee. During World War II, Joe served our country as a Navy Seabee in a Stevedore Battalion while stationed in Hawaii. On returning to Phoenix, he worked as the Sales Manager for J.R. Norton Agricultural Company for almost 25 years before retiring to a life of traveling the world and playing golf. Joe's friends and extended family will remember and admire Joe for his clever and creative wit, and especially for his caring and generous ways. A life well lived. Friends of Joe plan to remember him at a private reception.
