Charlotte Cook Obituary
Cook, Charlotte
Charlotte Cook died July 15, 2014 in Phoenix. Born in Peoria, Illinois, Charlotte moved to Arizona in 1955 with parents Barbara Ezell (deceased) and Charles Cook, now of Florida. Also surviving are devoted Aunt Irene (Phoenix) and brother Jim and wife Helen and their children Shannon, Renee and Charles, of New Zealand. Born with life-threatening physical and intellectual syndromes, Charlotte proved wrong the doctors who said she would die in infancy. Indeed, she carved out a long, engaged life. In so doing, she marched to her own drum, stepping to a beat driven by a strong heart and feisty temperament. Baseball was Charlotte's first passion; she stuck by the Diamondbacks through thick and thin. She made many life-long friends through activities with Arizona's intellectually disabled community. These included Central United Methodist Church's Christian Ambassadors, the Phoenix Bird Civitan Club, Scouts' Venture Crew 2529 to name a few. Also helping Charlotte on her life journey were friends, staff and volunteers at ARC, Perry School and Lura Turner Homes for Developmentally Disabled Adults, where she lived for 20+ years. The family sends thanks to the staffs of Lura Turner Homes and who lovingly saw Charlotte through the last months of her life as she prepared to receive her heavenly wings. Charlotte's memorial service is 10 a.m., Thursday, July 24, Central United Methodist. 1875 N. Central Ave., Phoenix. The family requests donations be made in Charlotte's memory to Lura Turner Homes, 1432 N. 27th Ave., Phx., AZ., 85009. Condolences and tributes can be made at www.almoore-grimshaw.com
