LAURA JENNINGS HOUSEWORTH
Laura Jennings Houseworth, age 87, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away on August 12, 2014.
Laura was born on March 22, 1927 in Kansas City, KS, the youngest child of parents Frank and Lucile Jennings. Laura graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City and subsequently received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, IL and a Master's Degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO. Many years later, Laura was accepted into the inaugural law school class at Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ and subsequently attended The University of Arizona Law School and returned from Tucson with her family and received a JD from Arizona State University. Laura practiced law as a Deputy County Attorney for Maricopa County, AZ for 14 years prior to her retirement. During her undergraduate college years, Laura was active in the Chi Omega Sorority and went on to serve as its Deputy Assistant Director following graduation. Laura was always an active community volunteer, serving as a founder of the Crisis Nursery in Phoenix, AZ, a member of the of the Junior Leagues of Tucson, AZ and Phoenix, AZ, a Co-founder of the Volunteer Bureau in Tucson, AZ, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, IL.
Laura is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, Richard Court Houseworth, Scottsdale, AZ; her sister, Lucile Gille of Lenexa, KS; her children, Louise Houseworth of Phoenix, AZ, Lucile (Mark) Magnuson of Nashville, TN, and Court (Joanne) Houseworth of Orinda, CA; and three grandchildren, Sean Christopher Houseworth of Los Angeles, CA; Madison Marie Houseworth of Orinda, CA; and Kelsey Lynn Magnuson of Nashville, TN.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Barnabas on the Desert Episcopal Church, 6715 North Mockingbird Lane, Scottsdale, AZ. Memorial contributions may be made to Crisis Nursery, 2334 East Polk Street Phoenix, AZ 85006. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary. Postscripts by Posey.
