Dear Grama,
I still find myself doing things that I do because I learned them from you: I take my daughter to special lunches where we split a salad, order lemonade, get lemon meringue pie and then shop for nothing in particular because we did that at least once every time I visited. I clean my kitchen to perfection no matter how much of a mess it was that night at dinner and I let everyone and anyone come eat at my house simply because theres no reason not to and I remember you saying that when I asked you why everyone was always over at your house for dinner. I buy my kids their favorite cereal and they get to have it saturday morning for breakfast because I used to look forward to having my favorite cereal when I visited your house. I have antiques you gave me still at my house, I buy antiques and remember how to shop for them because you taught me that. I take my time picking out what jewelry to wear every day because I used to watch you try on yours and then giggle because youd usually end up wearing the same pieces. I am quiet about it but I keep old pictures and display them of family and friends, that collection started when I was very young when you would give me old family pictures Id find in the back room of the pool house.
I managed to pick up silly habits from you: I tap my nails on the steering wheel when I wait at traffic lights, I take baths at night because you used to tell me it was the best way to relax before bed, I tell my daughter she cant stare at me while I do my makeup because "its a surprise" because thats what you used to say to me, just like I tell Jane she cant stare at me while I do the dishes unless shes going to help (she always ends up wanting to help just like I did with you) and if I wake up early I read over watching tv just like I used to find you and grampa so many times first thing in the morning.
You consoled me about all the things I couldnt do as a little girl...
You taught me how to write in cursive.
You confided in me.
You told me to quit growing up and I did anyway as fast as I could and now I find myself saying the same things to my kids.
I could go on and on about all the things I do now because of you or about the things remember about you. If there was anything Id want you to know, it would be that I loved you. Its true that life is short as much as its true that a lifetime is forever. I havent been able to keep up with the past few years of life myself and life has passed me by because of it but I remember as I always will, the lifetime I spent with you. It was you Ill remember most from all those times I spent there at the house on Greywood. Thank you for all you were, and especially for all you were to me.
love

My dearest Aunt Barbara. Without you...my life would have been so different. Who would have taken care of me after that awful car accident in 1976. You made your home, my home and always welcomed my friends with open arms.
Where would our wedding reception have been You took care of everything and make it the party of the year.
My Christmas Ball...you bought me a beautiful fur jacket to go with my gown.
Where would we have gone for Christmas Day?
Fun, food, family and friends. You taught me how to enjoy them all.
I will never forget you. I am so greatful for your love. Please give my Damen a hug for me.
Until we meet again.......
