Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Charles Edgar Measel, 85, peacefully passed away June 15, 2010, at his home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 21, Green Acres Memorial Gardens, 401 N. Hayden Rd, Scottsdale. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. preceding the service. Mr. Measel was born January 16, 1925 in Eubank, Kentucky to Solon and Loucrecia Measel. He served honorably as a tanker in the U.S. Marine Corps with the Sixth Marine Division during World War II. After the war, he lived and worked in Dayton, Ohio, until moving to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1960 with his wife , Marjorie Haught; daughters, Lana and Donna, and son, David. In 1969, the family moved to Tempe, Arizona. Mr. Measel retired from Wittman Contracting Company in 1973. Since retiring, he enjoyed building their cabin in Overgaard, Arizona, where they spent more then 25 summers, woodworking, traveling and spending time with his family. Mr. Measel is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie, daughter Lana Penfield and her husband, Don; daughter Donna Dean and her husband Alan; grandchildren Jill, Ray, Joshua, Jay, Jonathan and Taylor; and great-grandchildren Krystin, Aaron and Daniel. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David; grandson, Jeremy; and brothers Hershel, Russell and Otis, and sister Hattie Blackwell.
