77, died July 19, 2010 in Phoenix, AZ. Joe was born and raised in Woodside, Queens, New York as a first generation Italian American. He is a graduate of Fordham University and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. Joe Onofrio worked as a Marketing/Public Relations Executive in New York City for 20 years. In the late '70s Joe moved to Arizona with his wife, Marilyn, and opened the New Morning Cafe on 16th St/Thomas. Always a visionary, the New Morning Cafe was one of the first natural food restaurants in Phoenix. In the 1980s, he returned to his first love of advertising. This time, Joe worked for a variety of non-profits and arts organizations in Phoenix (Arizona Opera, Arizona Theatre Company and the Phoenix Symphony, to name a few). Joe became a CLIO Award Winner for his "New Arizona Opera Will Blow You Away" campaign and was the recipient of a Rocky Mountain Emmy. He also served as a Board President of the Franciscan Renewal Center and the Center for Italian Culture. Joe is survived by his daughters Michele and Diane as well as his granddaughter Brianna. Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marilyn Lanza. A Mass will be held Saturday, July 24 at 10 AM at the Franciscan Renewal Center (The Casa) in Paradise Valley. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in his memory to the charities of his choice: Andre House (serving the poor and the homeless of AZ) P.O.
