Gibson, Robert J.
80, of Clifton Park, NY, died Monday July 26, 2010 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Born in Troy on July 28, 1929 he was the son of the late Robert F. Gibson and Catherine O'Malley Gibson and husband of Susan Gibson of Clifton Park. Mr. Gibson was a 1947 graduate of Lansingburgh High School. He then attended the General Electric Apprentice Program where he studied drafting. He spent 42 years working for General Electric in Schenectady, retiring in 1990 as a Drafting Manager from the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory division, managing the largest unit within the division at the time. During retirement, he was a member and past president of the Clifton Park Old Timer's Softball League, playing until he was 70. He enjoyed spending time with his friends in the International Classic Thunderbird Clubs, including the Early Bird Club of the Capital Region and the Arizona Classic Club. Bob enjoyed spending summers in the Capital Region and winters in Goodyear, Arizona with his wife Susi, driving across the country three times over the last year and previously traveled throughout Europe, with much love for the "Old Country" of his ancestry - Ireland. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Waterford. He was well loved and will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Survivors in addition to his wife Susan include; his son David M. Gibson of Westport, CT., his daughter Kathleen H. Gibson (Tom Willetts) of Waterford, a granddaughter Rebecca L. Gibson of Malta, and a brother Fredrick Wayne Gibson of Schenectady. Bob is also survived by his step children Austin C. Hecht, Tiffany K. Hecht (Chad Findley) and step granddaughter Chloe R. Hecht. He was predeceased by his wife Helen Chase Gibson who died September 24, 2000 and his second wife H. Patricia DeLee who died January 22, 2008. Funeral services will be 9:00 am Thursday, July 29, 20l0 from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th St. and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh, and at 9:30 am in St. Mary's Church, Broad Street, Waterford, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday July 28, 2010 at the funeral home.
