I hadn't seen or spoken to Uncle Gene in years... we were just too far apart. I kept meaning to write or call, yet I never did. I kept wanting to, but life kept getting in the way. I wish now I had tried harder.

May the Lord be with you in this difficult time.
Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD (Psalm 31:24).

I met Eugene while I was 'visiting' my parents at Resthaven & Eugene was there to be with his beloved who had passed before him. He was sitting on the bench there by her gravesite & I had heard him talking to her which drew me over to him. As a former geriatic nurse I have a special place in my heart for those a number of years older than I..thus began my visits with Eugene whenever we were at Resthaven the same time of day. It touched my heart to hear the pain in his voice as he spoke of how much he missed the love of his life. What devotion he had for her..and, to take care of her in "sickness & health" as he had vowed. We moved away to Coolidge & so when in Phoenix I would try & time my visits the same time as when he was at cemetary..but, the last 2 times he was not there & I felt he must be losing his battle with the disease that was taking him. The 17th June I was there to visit daddy which was 11 yrs anniversary of his death & I saw the blue flags there to mark the opening of the grave...he had made the journey I learned to meet the woman he loved & spoke of with such tenderness. It was a chance meeting between Eugene & I that spring day over a year ago but he touched my heart because of the love he had for his Willa. He has joined her now..& I know he is smiling & not the look his face showed of loneiness. I remember with a smile that meeting & how I asked him if I could give him a hug & kiss being one who gives such..AND he turned his cheek away from he & grabbed a kiss from me on the lips!! Did I mind? No! and, from then on I referred to him as "my boyfriend at the cemetary"! You have found your peace...and, your Willa! Blessings my friend..I shall miss seeing you sitting there on the bench telling Willa of your day but if I may I will sit & spend some time with the two of you as I also spend time with my parents who you both must get to know!! Blessings my friend!..I shall miss you!
