Odden, Norman Torkel
Norman was born on June 27, 1936 and raised in West Hempstead, Long Island. The son of Conrad Racine and Astrid Caspara Odden, both Norwegian by birth, Norman is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Nuckols Odden; his daughter Susan and her husband Ralph Indorf; her daughters Kathryn and Natalie; his grandson-in-law Matthew Waters; his son George and his wife Karen; their children Julia and Kyle; and his brother Conrad "Sonny" Odden and his wife Anne. He received a bachelor's degree from Cornell University in 1959, followed by a master's degree from Michigan State University in 1961. A manager for General Foods for over thirty years, he specialized in distribution and customer service. Before moving to Scottsdale, he and Nancy lived in Weston, Connecticut for over thirty years, where he was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, serving as chalice bearer, lay reader, member of the vestry, and treasurer. A great lover of horses, he spent many happy hours with his daughter Susan and her family at their Vermont farm. Always supportive, kind, and ready to lend a hand to those who needed it, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He passed away not long after midnight on December 20, 2012. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 1 pm at St. Barnabas on the Desert, 6715 North Mockingbird Lane, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253.
