John Tyrrell Obituary

Tyrrell, John Patrick
John Patrick Tyrrell, age 37 of Glendale, AZ passed through the gates of Heaven on Jan 7, 2013 in Phoenix. John was born in Poughkeepsie, NY and moved with his family to Arizona in 1980. An elite high school track athlete, John continued his career as a member of both Arizona State and University of Arizona's track teams. John loved music, sports (particularly New York Giants and Notre Dame football), animals, philosophy and his family, especially his daughter. He was very health conscious and recently became interested in mixed martial arts. He was very proud of his Irish heritage, intending to travel abroad to Ireland upon his college graduation. As a student in the College of Social Work at ASU, John was a 3-time member of the Dean's list and looked forward to graduating with his degree in June 2013. He hoped to become a Certified Substance Abuse and Mental Health Counselor. John will be terribly missed by his parents, John and Ann Tyrrell, his grandfather Al Areno, his brother Joe (Kelly), his sister Beth Simek (Tony), his daughter Stanzi, nephews, niece, aunts, uncles, cousins and his many friends. A memorial service will be held on Jan 14 at 6PM at Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W. Thunderbird Rd. Peoria, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arizona Humane Society are appreciated.

My son ran track and cross country with you and Joe at Moon Valley. I had the privilege of watching you run many times. You were an amazing athlete with such a beautiful stride and strong desire to achieve. You made it look so effortless. Your father was so very proud of you and Joe. May you rest in peace. Where did all the years go? They seem so fast now. I would change so many things if given a second chance, but knowing you gave me the best friend I could ever have on this trip. I would pick you a million times. You were always the fastest, I hope you let me catch up to see you again someday. Love and miss you always brother

My brother,
I remember when we would go for a run together at night and we would laugh about how identical our shadows on the ground looked. I know when I run your shadow will still be there even if I can't see it. I will hear you saying, "Do you want to be the best? Or do you just want to...be?" I miss my brother, my running partner, my shadow. I love you John. Talk to me...I can hear you.

May the Irish hills caress you.
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you.
May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.

May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow.
May the soft winds freshen your spirit.
May the sunshine brighten your heart
May the burdens of the day rest lightly upon you.
And may God enfold you in the mantle of His love.

May we live in peace without weeping.
May our joy outline the lives we touch without ceasing.
And may our love fill the world, angel wings tenderly beating.

For the test of the heart is trouble
and it always comes with years.
And the smile that is worth the praises of earth
Is the smile that shines through the tears.

This was a saying only John and I knew the meaning of and we laughed so hard over it--"paint can"?

Once, in a little pond, in the muddy water under the lily pads, there lived a little water beetle in a community of water beetles. They lived a simple and comfortable life in the pond with few disturbances and interruptions. Once in a while, sadness would come to the community when one of their fellow beetles would climb the stem of a lily pad and would never be seen again. They knew when this happened; their friend was dead, gone forever.

Then, one day, one little water beetle felt an irresistible urge to climb up that stem. However, he was determined that he would not leave forever. He would come back and tell his friends what he had found at the top. When he reached the top and climbed out of the water onto the surface of the lily pad, he was so tired, and the sun felt so warm, that he decided he must take a nap. As he slept, his body changed and when he woke up, he had turned into a beautiful blue-tailed dragonfly with broad wings and a slender body designed for flying.

So, fly he did! And, as he soared he saw the beauty of a whole new world and a far superior way of life to what he had never known existed. Then he remembered his beetle friends and how they were thinking by now he was dead. He wanted to go back to tell them, and explain to them that he was now more alive than he had ever been before. His life had been fulfilled rather than ended. But, his new body would not go down into the water. He could not get back to tell his friends the good news. Then he understood that their time would come, when they, too, would know what he now knew. So, he raised his wings and flew off into his joyous new life!
May we all find peace and comfort in John's new found peace and comfort. Rest in Peace, my friend. xo
