Larson, Bertha Lorraine
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Bertha Lorraine Larson passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Jan. 7, 2013. She is survived by her sister, Marlys Gudim, her two daughters, Nancy Richardson (Bill) and Donna Larson; grandchildren, Brian Richardson (Diamaresa) and Dana Richardson, Kristin Wojtan (Matt), Selena Larson Maffeo and Devon Larson Maffeo; a great-grandson Strom Richardson; nieces Mary Wills, Mona Rauen (Rick); and nephew Clint Gudim (Tammy).

Bert was born October 1, 1923 in Farmington, Minnesota to Charles and Marie Hall. In 1946 she married Lloyd Larson, a captain in the Army, who died in 1953. Known as Sis as a young woman, then Bert, and in her final years, Bertie, she started as a time keeper at the home office of Montgomery Wards in St. Paul, Minnesota and left as their head time keeper and floor supervisor. Her background included bookkeeping, property management, and in Arizona she did construction management and real estate, selling homes in Scottsdale and Carefree. She designed and built her Carefree, Arizona dream home after the styling and philosophy of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Bert was a strong-willed, self-made woman with an extremely hard work ethic and a fire cracker personality. She was a collector of fine art and fashion, loved to travel, shop, cook and entertain. She could roller skate and dance circles around anyone with her exuberant energy and sense of humor and leaves a legacy of passion to inspire many for years to come. She brought much joy to her many friends and acquaintances in home, school and care facilities and gained the admiration and respect of all who knew her.

Being a woman of true class, she always sought to make each moment count and loved being the life of the party. Her smile lit up an entire room! Bertie lived her life to the fullest with a spring in her step, especially in her stiletto heels. She will be greatly missed but her spirit will live on in the hearts of so many people whose lives she touched. Condolences may be forwarded via email to: memories@bertlarson.com.
