Phyllis Eliot Obituary

Eliot, Phyllis Allman
passed away peacefully on Feb 15, 2013. Phyllis was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and loving companion. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Dr. Robert S. Eliot, MD, her parents, Elmore L. (Bud) and Amy Allman and her sister, Sally Boehm. She is survived by her loving companion, Earle B. Kaufman, son William Robert Eliot, daughter Susan Elaine Eliot, grandson Robert E. Ponomar, granddaughter Paige D. Ponomar, sisters Lorna Tweedie and Emily James (husband Bill). She is also survived by an aunt, niece, nephew and cousins. Phyllis was the oldest of four daughters (chief sister and chef extraordinaire) born October 14, 1931 and raised in Medford, Wisconsin. Phyllis graduated from the Stout Institute (UW-Stout) and was a Registered Dietitian. She collaborated with her late husband on a number of his books, including the popular "Is It Worth Dying For". She was the Managing Trustee of the International Stress Foundation which supports continuing medical education related to stress and heart disease. Phyllis was well traveled and enjoyed the differences that made each locale special. As the seasons changed, Phyllis could be found at home in Paradise Valley, AZ, Cape Cod, MA, and Jackson Hole, WY. She had a wide circle of friends at each location who were often treated to her wonderful and creative culinary achievements. We have lost a smart and savvy woman of great elegance and style. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 5 to 8 PM at Messinger Indian School Mortuary 7601 E. Indian School Road. Services will be Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Messinger Indian School Mortuary at 1:30 PM. Burial to follow at Paradise Memorial Gardens 9300 E. I have known Phyllis for around 30 years, and once helped her at a meeting in the Tetons. She was a very energetic, intelligent, and attractive woman. My late husband Larry spent over 20 years in her home on Saturdays, helping her husband Dr. Robert Eliot build and run their huge model railroad. I will miss her e-mail notes and phone calls. My condolences to her son Bill and daughter Susan, and her other loved ones; may God give each of you peace.

Phyllis was a very classy woman, and a nice person. She made me feel at home in her homes over the last 34 years. I enjoyed her lunches too. I know my Dad Larry Martin enjoyed her and Doc's company & friendship very very much. She was a very respectable person. I will miss her. My prayers go out to her family and friends.
