Griffith, Anna P.
The Guest Book is expired.
92, passed away on February 20th, 2013 in Mesa, Arizona. Anna was born on August 1, 1920, in Hillsboro, Missouri. She was the "lucky 13th" child of Frank and Maggie (Wiley) Huskey, and was raised on the family farm 60 miles south of St. Louis. She married Thomas W. Griffith on Thanksgiving Day in 1938 and the two of them headed west to Tempe, Arizona to start their new life. They had two children, Tom in 1942, and Barbie in 1950. In 1951 Anna found herself a young widow raising her two young children on her own. Fiercely protective and "hell bent" to do the best she could for them both! In 1952 she was hired as the first secretary to the principal of the Tempe Elementary School district at Wayne Ritter Elementary. She spent 18 years there and then went on to spend 13 more years at Agnes Meyer Elementary in Tempe. She retired in 1982 after 31 years of service. After retirement she moved from Tempe to Mesa to be closer, and to help with raising her grandchildren. She loved her grandkids and busied herself as their biggest supporter! This was the "hat" she wore most proudly. She never seemed to tire as she aged; she just got better! Anna was blessed with a young spirit and good health. Every child, friend and family became special to her and everyone called her "Gramma Annie". Anna is survived by her son Tom Griffith, her daughter Barbie and son-in-law Jim Boyle, all of Mesa, Arizona; four grandchildren, Crickett (Mary Ann) and husband Andy Hampton of Yuma, Arizona; Jimmy and wife Alexandra Boyle, of Mesa, Erin Boyle-Bloom and husband Stefan of Sacramento, California; and Gregory Griffith and wife Stefanie of Houston, Texas. She dearly loved and felt very blessed to have her seven great-grandchildren, Parker and Annabelle Hampton; Aine, James and Cate Boyle; and Brady and Brock Griffith. They were the "lights of her life"! Anna was preceded in death her parents Maggie and Frank Huskey, sisters Dorothy Cage, Blanche Hagelman, Clara Walton, Myrtle Huskey, May Dalton, Margaret Schowe, Bobbie Grosswiller and Edith Kirby; brothers George W. Huskey and Oliver S. Huskey. A celebration of a life well lived will be held on Sunday, February 24th 2013, at 2:00 pm at Carr-Tenney Funeral Home Chapel, 2621 S. Rural Rd. in Tempe, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Arizona
