92, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on February 22, 2013. Sophie Diane was born February 12, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois, to the late James and Paulene Carras. She received her teaching certificate from National College and went on to teach Nursery School for more than a decade. In addition to her many accomplishments, the beautiful and talented Sophie Diane was Miss Greece-Chicago. She married Walter King, a musician, in 1946 and traveled with him throughout the 50 states with his Big Band (The Griff Williams Orchestra) before deciding to settle down in Glencoe, Ill. in 1952. Her son, Walter was born in 1949 and her daughter, Jodie was born 7 years later in 1956. In 1965 they opened a music store - Wally Kings Music Center - in Glencoe, Ill. The ran a successful business for 20 years before retiring to Sun City West, AZ, to be near her brother and sister. She lost her beloved husband, Walter, the following year. Survived by her two children, Walter (Cindy) and Jodie King, two grandchildren, Kyla (Greg) McClure and Zachery (Alisa) King and four great-grandchildren; Lola Sophia, Kolvin Lily, Grace Ilene and Hudson James. She was loved dearly by her many nieces and nephews and the large extended Greek family for which she was Matriarch. She now hands that honor off to her younger sister, Mary. She will always be remembered for her beauty, her smile, her quick laugh and how kind and gentle she was with every single person she met. "She was an Angel who walked among mortals". She loved to sing and she left us all with a song in our hearts. She will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 3rd.
