John George Hendel - September 21, 1918 - March 16, 2013 - Tempe, AZ In negotiations concluded earlier today, John Hendel was traded to the Angels. Originally from St. Louis, Mo. and a life-long Cardinals fan, along with his teammate of 35 years, Montrose, now with the Angels, they fielded a team of their own (nine) here in Arizona. The batting order: Jean Martorana, Mike, Rick, Bob, Garry (wife Vicki), Pat (the late Dr. James Brown), Mark, Beth, and Chris (wife Liz), wife/mother Montrose, God's franchise player, was drafted in 1979. Sweet Polly signed up and together they have been a perfect team for another 32 years. With Polly, star players were added: Mary Klatt and Tom Horton (wife Wendy) to give us a solid line-up! That deep bench includes 11 children, 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. John worked for Motorola for 22 years, when he wasn't in the coaching box at first base. At 94, John's heart was still in the game and his loss puts a big hole in the roster, but we knew that his talents were needed up in The Big Show. There will be a funeral mass for John G. Hendel at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20th St. Daniel the Prophet Catholic Church, 1030 N. Hayden Road. Scottsdale, AZ 85257 Interment immediately following: Green Acres Cemetery 401 N.
