Gilliss, Stephen Erick
64, of Glendale, AZ passed away on April 9, 2013, after a courageous battle against liver disease. He was surrounded by his loving family at Hospice of Arizona in Phoenix. Stephen was born in Beverly, Massachusetts, August 4, 1948. He was the loving son of the late William and Norma (Brooks) Gilliss, also of Phoenix. He was formerly married to Diane (Dussourd) Gilliss of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Stephen is survived by his four children: son Stephen and his wife Michelle of Danvers, Massachusetts; son Jamie and his wife Spring (Saylor) of St. Petersburg, Florida; son Jason of Glendale; and son Christopher and his wife Dao Huynh also of Phoenix. Stephen was predeceased by daughter Kerry Ellen Gilliss Stephen was one of nine children and lived in Gloucester for much of his life before traveling to Florida and finally settling in Phoenix to be closer to his parents and siblings. His surviving siblings are brother Daniel and wife Vicki; brother Billy and wife Connie; brother Ted and wife Tammy; brother Sean and wife Debbie; brother Jay; brother Don and wife Mary; sister Dianne Gilliss. Stephen was also predeceased by his brother, Michael. Stephen, a lifelong carpenter, had the gift of gab and was always eager to share his views on fitness, construction and especially politics. He was fiercely loyal to his family and he thought nothing of sharing all that he had with all whom he loved. He was profoundly proud of his family and often talked about the unique gifts each family member possessed; however, Stephen was particularly fond of his grandchildren: Harrison, Tristan, Teagan and Jaiden Gilliss; Jacob Gilliss; Damien, Kade, Kali-Bre and Riley Gilliss; Braxton and Brody Huynh. Stephen is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and was especially close to his nieces Tracie, Jennifer, and Sarah, whom he adored like daughters.
