Smith, Basil R.
Basil Smith, beloved husband, father, and friend to many, was called home to be with the Lord on April 8th, 2013. He is survived by wife Kristi, sons Zach and Konnor, daughters Meghan (McCann) and Jordan, son-in-law Matthew McCann, grandson Rylan McCann, brothers Brian Smith, Miles Smith, Sam Smith, and sisters Jenna Archuletta, Sandra Justrabo, Brenda Strate, and Laura Schmidt. Basil was born in El Paso, Texas on July 11, 1953 where he attended Burgess High School and graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice from University of Texas at El Paso. A true man of the outdoors, Basil loved to spend his free time hunting, fishing, and enjoying time with his family and friends. He was a long time Texas resident until his family relocated to Arizona in 2008. It was apparent that he had found his new home! Basil began his land surveying career at the young age of 14. His employees and colleagues became some of his most valued friends. An avid fan of Science Fiction, Horror, and Fantasy, Basil imparted his sense of wonder and imagination upon an entire generation. If a man's worth is to be measured by his love of God, family, and life, then Basil lived a life that is truly immeasurable. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his wife, four children, and various other family members and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, April 13th at 10am in Redemption Church, 1820 W. Elliot Rd, Gilbert AZ, 85233. Donations can be made to the Phoenix Dream Center or Camp Rainbow in care of Phoenix Children's Hospital.
