Okamura, Pete Landeros (Alatorre)
Pete Landeros (Alatorre) Okamura, 80, and new resident of Norfolk, VA, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. He was born and grew up in Mesa, AZ. During his youth he enjoyed swimming in the area canals, playing marbles with his school friends, working at the Lucky Lunch and Lucky Market for his brothers Ygnacio and John Alatorre. Pete graduated from Mesa High School where he learned to love the game of football. Pete is one of Mesa High's "Star of the Week" football players. He retired from the US Air Force after 20 years as a SMSGT and then served 22 years with the Social Security Administration in Jonesboro and Blytheville, Ark., and Baton Rouge, La. After this retirement he and his wife, Lydia, lived in Albuquerque NM with their son, Michael. From 2003 to 2012 they lived in Sacramento CA with their daughter Sabrina. In September 2012 they helped Sabrina and her husband Chris relocate to a 25-acre farm in Union WV. In April 2013 they moved to Norfolk VA to be closer to their daughters Teresa and Monique and their grandchildren. Pete is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lydia G. Okamura of Norfolk, VA; three daughters, Sabrina E. Okamura-Johnson and husband Chris Johnson of Union, WV, Teresa M. Okamura Jett and husband Page of Norfolk, VA and Monique D. Okamura Gann of Franklin, VA; a son, Michael A. Okamura, an officer of the US State Department Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, and wife Christina; six grandchildren, Shane, Derek, Taylor, Sela, Michael and Natalie; and many beloved Okamura and Alatorre family nieces and nephews, especially his name sake nephew Pete (Okamura) Chaides. His funeral service was April 15th, 2013 at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, Norfolk VA, followed by his burial with full military honors at the Albert G.
