French, Ivan Douglas
With profound sadness, Ivan, a child of God was called home on April 5, 2013, after complications from surgeries. Ivan was born Sept. 14, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan to Walter and Virginia (Maloney) French. Upon graduating from Detroit Denby H.S., he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a radar school instructor in the UK. Ivan was an entrepreneur, founding Verstand Engineering, a Michigan machine tool design company, and later, French and Rogers, an award-winning Michigan-based business-to-business advertising agency. After moving to Arizona, he founded the Galilee Fish Company, a Christian church marketing consulting firm. An avid reader and accomplished writer, he published one book entitled Reaching Seekers, and was in the process of completing another, The Discipleship Reformation. His passion was to reach the unchurched and to bring them to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He helped plant new churches all over the U.S. Ivan was a brilliant and an articulate man who had a wide variety of interests, including designing and building homes in Michigan and Arizona. His two sons, Michael and Alan, preceded Ivan in death. He is survived by his loving wife Ruth; children Carol (Steve) Kulcher, Walter (Kathy) French and Mary McLaughlin; stepchildren David (Robin) Kruger; Lori (Tom) Diab; Katherine (David) Knott; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
