Goan, Phil
88, of Scottsdale passed away on August 18, 2013. Phil was born in Billings, Montana on July 21, 1925. He was a graduate of Carleton College, Minnesota, and served in the Army, Co. E, 276 Infantry Regiment, 70 Infantry Division, during WWII where he earned a Bronze Star. During college he met the love of his life, Joan Potter Goan. They were married in Minneapolis in 1949 and moved back to Billings. Phil spent his early years working in the family business. His professional life was as an investment broker. His keen interest in politics and history lead him to serve a term in the Montana State Legislature. In 1962 he moved the family to the Twin Cities where in continued in the investment business. He retired to Carefree, AZ in 1991. His greatest love was for his family and church but he also had a great passion for golf, tennis, travel, and volunteering. Kiwanis, Rotary, the local library and the care center is where enjoyed sharing his energy. He had great fun playing cards with friends and participating in a writing group. He always found his greatest peace in the mountains of Montana at East Rosebud Lake. He is predeceased by his parents, Perc and Annabel Goan, brother, Bill Goan sister, Nancy Dokken and son- in -law, John Lukaska. He is survived by wife Joan Goan, Scottsdale, daughters; Gerry Lee Lukaska, Minneapolis, Kathryn Wiant (Jim), St. Cloud, Annie Cronin (Nick), Minneapolis, sons; John Goan, Big Sky, Dan Goan, Sauk Centre, 10 grandchildren, 4 great grand children and many family members and friends. Memorial Service, Saturday August 24, 2013 at 2:00p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 22405 North Miller Rd. Scottsdale, AZ 85255.
