Ronald M. Pavlak

Obituary Condolences

Pavlak, Ronald M.
Ron (Rockin' Ron) Pavlak peacefully ascended his final trail up the mountainside on Aug. 24th, after a rugged battle with an aggressive form of cancer. Born in Chicago, IL, he rejoiced in accomplishing most of the big dreams in his life. He earned his business degree at DePaul University before joining GTE Corporation where he met his sweetheart. He married Stella in 1976, and relocated to Phoenix in 1984, where they built their home and raised a loving family. Inspired by his father's work ethic, Ron's single-field career in digital telecommunications was consistently on an upward trajectory. In over 30 years in the industry, he picked the right team/projects to make a broad impact by exploring the edges of what is technically possible and by tackling ambitious challenges. His musical muse was fueled by Bruce Springsteen and Pink Floyd. So Rockin' Ron celebrated his retirement off the grid as an award-winning international radio personality for ten years with non-profit internet stations, happily violating the conventions of traditional classic rock radio playlists with Dave "Deia" Perry, his radio partner and great friend. His life was marked by optimism, love, laughter, and trying new things. He constantly made to-do lists, and was a major investor in Post-It notes. His down-to-earth lifestyle was filled with Scrabble throw-downs, casino successes, thrift store visits, camping, international travel, ( New Zealand, Mexico, Canada, Caribbean) a winning tennis record, wine tastings, pinochle games, air guitar trophies, and mad sous chef skills. He was an avid hiker, traversing the mountain parks of Phoenix in a decade to cover enough miles to circle the globe at that latitude (with a titanium hip). His faith was strong and his last thoughts were of family and friends who had gone before him; he was ready to meet them all again with God by his side. He is going to proudly watch over his wonderful wife of 37 years, Stella, son Mark, daughter Natalie, son-in-law Nathan, grandson Harvey, brother Dick and sister Marianne. Ron was hoping that people use the occasion of his passing to remember and celebrate his life. His request was that those who remember and cared about him share a cigar or single malt scotch in his honor. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society Happy trails, Ron. You will survive in our memories. A visitation will be held at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale, AZ on Tuesday, August 27th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church 11001 N. 40th St., Phoenix, AZ on Wednesday August 28th at 11:00 a.m.
