Leabo, Samuel Newton
89, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Sam served in the U.S. Navy as 1st Class Machinist Mate during WWII. Sam retired from Naumann Hobbs Material Handling Systems after 35 years. As the first and only Chief of Phoenix Police Reserves, Sam served proudly for 13 years. He served as Lieutenant Governor of the Optimist Club. Sam was a hardworking man who excelled at everything he did in life. Past Master of Sahuaro Lodge #45 and Lodge #2, Sam also received the Honor of Mason of the Year and the Lifetime Recognition Award. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite. Sam belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9400. Sam was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and love of his life, his wife, Mary "Snookie" Francis Leabo, whom he was married to for 56 years. Also, preceded by his brother, Lloyd Leabo. He is survived by his three children, Larry (Dianne) Leabo, Gary (Patti) Leabo and Susan (Donald) Leabo Lockhart; his brothers, Clarence Junior Leabo and Virgil "Pete" Leabo and his loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 31, 2013 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th Street, Phoenix, AZ. Funeral service will be held Friday, November 1, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Hansen's, followed by a burial at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Masonic Lodge, Sahuaro Lodge #45 or Lodge #2 or the Phoenix Police Reserves. Our father will be greatly missed by family and friends.
