Newton, Charles D. II ("Buzz")
Charles D. Newton, II ("Buzz") of Scottsdale, Arizona, died on March 21, 2015. His wife, Lois, who survives him, was his constant companion for more than 45 years. Buzz was born November 4, 1927, in the small village of Geneseo in Western New York. His Father was Judge George D. Newton, and his Mother was Nora Dexter. The original Charles D. Newton was his grandfather and former Attorney General of the State of New York. Buzz had two brothers, Robert D. Newton (Katherine) who passed away on April 12, 2012, and George D. Newton, Jr. (Marja) who resides in Winston-Salem, NC, and a sister, Polly N. Camp who resides in Orono, ME. Her husband, Paul R. Camp, a professor at the University of Maine passed away on January 9, 2012. Buzz had two children: Pamela N. Pratt (Alan) who resides in Groveland, NY, and Charles D. Newton, III who lives in Phoenix. He also had a step-son, William A. Wooster, III (Judith), and a step-son, Lawrence G. Wooster (Holly) who was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and died on February 22, 2013. He leaves two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom reside in New York, and one step great grandson who resides in Massachusetts. Buzz lived in Geneseo, NY, attended school there, graduating as Valedictorian of the High School Class of 1945. Shortly after graduation Buzz enlisted in the Army. He attended the University of Delaware under an Army program known as ASTRAP which was for those enlisted men who were not yet old enough to serve on active duty. His Army duty was under the U.S. Army's Military Intelligence Division serving in the Office of the Military Attache, U.S. Embassy in Lima, Peru. After his service he attended the University of Rochester and Law School at the University of Michigan. After graduation from law school he started his practice in Geneseo, at first with his Father as partner and then as a sole practitioner. His friendly attitude, compassion, enthusiasm, sense of humor and legal acumen resulted in many friends who became clients. He was successful as a sole practitioner in Geneseo. He always said he preferred a "people practice" rather than a "paper practice". He participated in Village affairs by serving as Village Attorney for many years, President of Livingston County Health Association and other village charities. He also had many large corporations and insurance companies as clients. These included International Salt Company, Erie Railroad, Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad, Genesee & Wyoming Railroad, and Genesee Valley National Bank and Trust Company. He continued his law practice after moving to Phoenix in 1969. After working for several firms Buzz decided he preferred being alone. He established his practice in Scottsdale in 1974 which continued until his death. He was a member of the Geneseo Rotary Club, American Bar Association, Arizona State Bar Association, Scottsdale Bar Association and New York State Bar Association. He was an avid sports fan and loved antiques. He was a friend of Questers, an antique study organization, and had a large collection of railroad memorabilia including antique railroad lanterns and cast iron still banks. There will be visiting hours at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale, Arizona, on March 26, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and a memorial service at St. Barnabas on-the-Desert Episcopal Church, 6715 N. Mockingbird Lane, Paradise Valley, Arizona, on March 27, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in Buzz's memory to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. box 758541, Topeka, KS 66675, or Arizona Humane Society, P.O. box 90610, Phoenix, AZ 85066.
