Don Strauch Obituary

Strauch, Don W. Jr.
passed away January 11, 2016, in Scottsdale, AZ. His adventurous life began at age 4, when he decided to explore the world on his trike, necessitating his parents call the police to locate him. He and his beloved wife of 65 years, Chris, continued the adventure, traveling all over the world during their marriage. Don was a highly respected, beloved and effective public servant, and he held many political and appointed offices serving Mesa and the state: P and Z Board, city council and mayor, all in Mesa; state representative, and CAWCD Board. He started the Sister City movement in Mesa. He also sat on the boards of many non-profits, usually as the treasurer. As a self-described 'bean counter,' he always tried to leave them in better financial shape than he found them. He is survived by his wife, Chris, daughter Christy; nephews Pat, Mike, and nieces Rory, Joanie and Debbie. His memorial service will be Jan 24th at 2pm, at the Mesa Country Club. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local public library, or better yet, run for office.

We need more people like Don in politics-people with vision, and willing to listen to both sides of an issue. We miss Don Strauch as a friend and public servant.

Sorry for your loss. May you gain peace and strength through your heartfelt prayers (Psalm 102:1), along with the prayers of others in your behalf.

Uncle Don, my Dad, brother and I are so sorry that you are no longer with us - we so enjoyed your wonderful smile and dry humor, and you are a fine example of what public service should be. Aunt Chris, we wish you peace and comfort in this terribly sad time, and we will be thinking of you every day.

Hi Chris, Pat Gilbert, et. al. Thanks for putting Don's obit in the Republic. As a twenty year golf partner of Don' s at MCC, I got to know a great guy: down to earth, soft spoken, a practical doer not an ideologue. Mesa and the Valley needs more Don Strauchs! Sorry we will be in SF and unable to attend the Mem. Service as I'd like to see many old friends and pay homage to Don.
