Betty Anne Jensen May 10, 1935 - July 23, 2013 Former Bakersfield resident Betty Anne Jensen, 78, passed away July 23, 2013, at her home in Taft, CA. A service celebrating her long and joyful life will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 10:30 a.m. at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Kelle and Glenn Black, located at 822 Canyon Court in Taft, CA. All of her old friends, new friends and many family members are invited to come together to honor the life of a this larger than life woman who touched so many people. Betty was born on May 10th, 1935, in Los Angeles County, CA , to Herald and Alice Ross. She graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1953, and was married to Charles "Chuck" Jensen four years later in Las Vegas, NV. As she vowed to do so on her wedding day, she spent the next 57 YEARS of her life with Chuck as her loving husband and best friend. Betty and Chuck raised their two children, Jim Jensen and Kelle Black, in Bakersfield, CA where they enjoyed many outdoor adventures together as a family. The whole family was very active in the Bakersfield Archery Club. They also spent many family vacations exploring the lakes and rivers of California and beyond in the comfort of their orange Chuckabago. Betty also had a very successful career at Continental Telephone, first as a payroll clerk (Continental Call Girl) then as a Personnel Manager and IT Systems Specialist. Her bright mind and unparalleled people skills earned her a great deal of respect and admiration of many of her colleagues. Betty retired in 1988 at the age of 53 and moved out of the City of Bakersfield in search of a more bucolic setting. Together Betty and Chuck maintained a home on several acres of land in Wofford Heights, CA where they could fish, work on their land and spend time with their 6 grandkids. Soon after retiring they also began to spend every Summer in Eureka, CA where they made many dear friends who came to be as close as family members. Betty loved to fish and pick wild berries to make her own tuna, jam, wines and liquors. Together, Betty and Chuck enjoyed their time in retirement to the fullest and were known for making friends and touching lives wherever they landed. In 2011 Betty and her husband relocated to Taft, CA to be close to their two adult children and rapidly growing number of great grandchildren. Though her soul has left this world for the next, her legacy continues to thrive in the hearts and minds of many. Betty is survived by her husband Charles "Chuck" Jensen; son and daughter- law, Jim and Paula Jensen of Bakersfield ; daughter and son-in-law, Kelle and Glenn Black of Taft; brother Dick Ross of Bakersfield; sister Candice DePriest; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. www.bakersfield.com/obits
