Mary Elizabeth (Stevenson) Bowles July 23, 1940 - January 29, 2013 Mary was born July 23, 1940 in Athens, TN and passed away with her family at her bedside in Arroyo Grande, CA on January 29, 2013 after battling cancer for nearly five years. Mary graduated from North High School and was a Bakersfield resident for over 60 years. She was a wonderful and loving mother and the best grandmother anyone could hope for. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Ora Stevenson of Bakersfield. Survivors include: Son, Steven K. Barnes and wife Linda; Daughter, Christine Alyce Nixon and husband Jim; Son, Michael P. Barnes and wife Janet; sisters Laura Jane McKnight, Paula Shortell, Karen Williams; brother Joe Stevenson; six grandchildren and 12 nieces and nephews. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2013 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bakersfield California. My aunt Mary was one of the sweetest, most kind people I knew. Always laughing and full of joy. She will be missed. I remember Mary when I was a little girl in Oildale. What a great family. We had alot of good times with the whole family. Alot of laughter. Wattenbarger Triplet..since no one knew us by anything else. Sorry for your lost.
