David Sabovich Obituary

David Marco Sabovich September 24, 1955 - August 9, 2013 David Marco Sabovich was born on September 24, 1955 in Bakersfield, growing up on the family ranch outside of Arvin. He died suddenly on Friday, August 9th as the result of a bicycling accident. His death leaves a hole in the hearts of his many family and friends. David is remembered as someone who worked extremely hard during his early days in the produce business. During those early years, after working in Sonora, Mexico with his dad and brother Robert to help growers develop the Mexican table grape industry, he worked for industry stalwarts such as Topco and Mendelson Zeller. He was a hard working employee but he always seemed happiest and most comfortable as an entrepreneur - working closely with others but with the freedom and autonomy to go forward with his own plan. He worked in different capacities of both sales and production, but in the end it was David's passion for the vines that prevailed; it was that passion for viticulture, his deep abiding love for the vines that had fulfilled him. David was the quintessential Grape Man - always optimistic about the upcoming harvest and willing to do the hard work to get it done. One of David's many passions in life was golf, spending endless hours at a time on the driving range. Another love of his was fishing. Last year he was able to fish the Amazon River, and as he described it, it was a spiritual time of his life. David was an intuitively generous person, giving of himself, expecting nothing in return. He overcame difficulties he was presented with in life and did not dwell in the past. Those who were fortunate enough to have had their life touched by him will always carry memories of his laughter, his love of a good joke and a good prank, and because of who he was, everyone will have their own special memory. David is predeceased in death by his special brother Robert, his father Bob, his beloved Uncle Dan Sabovich, cousin Danny Sabovich, his sweet dog Dallas, and many special aunts and uncles. He leaves innumerable family; his adored Auntie Jerri Sabovich, his mother Barbara, sisters Christy Boylan (Terry), Madeline Hahn(John), Karen Landers(Richard), and niece Corinne Pettit (Justin) nephew Meyer Wilson, great nephews Luke and Hank Pettit, Auntie Nilda Muzinich, as well as many very special cousins to mourn his passing and celebrate his life. A celebration will be held Friday, August 16th at 11:00 am at the Bakersfield Country Club. David's wishes would be for you to donate to a charity of your choice (as long as it isn't too liberal of a cause) in his memory, or to Alcoholics Anonymous. David's family wishes to thank his many friends that were by his side at the time of his death. A warm thanks to David's very special person Debra, who he cared for deeply. We are so touched by all of your love for him."The mind replays what the heart cannot delete" www.bakersfield.com/obits

David was an awesome guy. He spent many days teaching us about grapes and having a good time. He taught my brother, my friends, and I how to drive (#Z71). I will never forget the days in Hermosillo at the Bugambilia motel. He always will be remembered by the Guerriero family. RIP "SABO"

Please add my name to Davids long list of friends. I first met David at my small restraunt in Lindsay. He was a very pickie eater. After I sold my business we kept in touch. David asked me to be his cleaning lady. I so enjoyed working for and with David. On one of many occasion David wanted to talk. I told him he was paying me to work, his reply. "Now I am paying you to talk." When David decided to relocate to Bakersfield he asked me to pack for the move. His faith in my honisty to do his personal life will always be a warm spot in my heart. I continued to care for his Lindsay office until that moved. David was very generous. He gave me the furniture and appliances he did not want. Those items went to college with my grandson and he is still using them. The dryer gave up last month.
Please know my heart goes out to you.

Our Hearts pause to reflect and extend comforting love to the Boylan's and Sabovich's. What a beautiful tapestry our lives weave! As God's gentle hand guides the design from the upper side, it's an exquisite mystery as to how all the events will unfold. From underneath our canvas, we don't always understand the darker stands of color that are intertwined with the brilliant. But when our time comes to cross over...the canvas is unrolled to reveal that the dark threads in life, were just as significant as the threads of gold and silver. David's life was a rich prism of color that we will never forget...

My life is richer for knowing David for the short time I did when he moved to Lindsay. His love for the program, and for all of us, was extremely strong. He spent many hours with me helping me through a life situation, and I will be forever grateful. He was so generous with his monetary donations, and never wanted anyone to know, full of humility. He seemed so happy to be back in Bakersfield with all of his family. Words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. And don't worry David, I will stay out of the dented can aisle.

David was loved by many. He will be miss. He would want us all to remember his love for joking around. The love he had for the dogs and his horse. The love he had for all in his life. Of course the love for grapes and golf. He will be missed by many.
