Erva Bernice Almgren(1921 - 2010)

Erva Bernice Almgren 1921 - 2010 Erva Bernice Almgren went to be with her Lord and Savior July 28, 2010 for her eternal homecoming. Erva Bernice Almgren was a native of Bakersfield, CA and was born on May 11, 1921 in the "Greenfield" area of Kern County. She was the youngest child of Walter (also a native of Bakersfield), and Daisy White. Erva is survived by her loving and caring husband of 69 years, Alvin Almgren; her sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Betty Almgren, Darrell Almgren, John Almgren; eight grand-children, Julie Storie and Bo Gentry, Teena and Jeff Lawson and Darrell and Lorie Almgren Jr., Peggiann and Ron Ashford; ten great- grandchildren, Kara and Justin Gerber, Kayla White, Bradley Holley and Garrett Holley, Chase Almgren, Haylie Spargo, Taylor Clemmons, Elizabeth Ashford, and Alexander Ashford; and one great-grandchild, Ryleigh Nelson. Erva attended grammar school in the, then a two room Rio Bravo School on Enos Lane and graduated from there in 1935 with a class of 3 students. She then graduated from Kern County Union High School in 1939. Erva was a very artistic person, and was the "art editor" for the school year book "The Oracle" for the year 1939. Erva's church for some 89 years was "The First Church of The Nazarene" in Bakersfield, where she as a very young person was very involved in church activities and through the years experienced many "valued" life long friendships. Erva was an excellent cook and homemaker. She made beautiful wedding cakes, as well as being a very talented artist. She will be remembered for them all. Erva's family would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank with all of their hearts their wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother for the life she shared with them. Her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her wonderful relationship with her husband Alvin, carried her through this life and on to her heavenly reward and her homecoming celebration. The Almgren family would like to thank Brighton Manor and Hoffmann Hospice for their loving and wonderful care in Erva's final days on this earth. Graveside service will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at The First Church of The Nazarene. Visitation will be held today, Friday, July 30, 2010 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of remembrances, please donate to First Church of The Nazarene of Bakersfield, 2801 Hughes Lane, or Hoffmann Hospice.
