Gilberto Gonzalez Salazar Sr.(1929 - 2013)

Gilberto Gonzalez Salazar Sr. June 9, 1929 - September 18, 2013 Visitation will be Monday, September 23, from 5 - 9 p.m., at Basham-Anspach Funeral Home, 620 Oregon Street. A Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, E. California Ave. Interment will be at Union Cemetery with full military honors. A reception will follow. Born in El Paso, Texas, the last of eleven children born to Marcos and Manuela Salazar. Gilbert is survived by his high school sweetheart, Ernestine Salazar, his wife of 59 years; sons, Gilbert Jr. (wife Gabriela), Michael (wife Yvonne); and daughter, Irene Villalobos (husband Pedro); 10 beloved grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren as well as his brother, Julio Salazar (sister-in-law Rozella); and many Piña, Salazar, Valdes family members. Gilbert served proudly in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and received several medals. He served the County of Kern for 41 1/2 years before retiring in October 4, 2003 and volunteered for an additional 5 years. He will be missed by his family as well as many family friends.
