James "Rick" Barber(1952 - 2009)

James "Rick" Barber 1952 - 2009 James "Rick" Barber went to be with Jesus on April 8, 2009. Rick was born in Bakersfield on March 29, 1952 to Jim "Snooks" Barber and Virginia Barber, both of whom preceded him in death. Rick attended West High School, Bakersfield College, and Fresno City College. He loved sports, both as a participant and as a fan. Rick attended First Assembly of God in Bakersfield and loved being a member of the choir. Rick went blind at the age of six, but it never slowed him down. His telephone became his window to the outside world, and he took full advantage of it. Rick is survived by his sister, Sherry and husband, Gary Luckett of Bakersfield; sister, Linda and husband, Randy Parks of Bakersfield; brother, Mike Nichols and wife, Monica of Shafter; and nieces, Michelle Luckett of Bakersfield and Sarah and husband, Jerad Atherton of Costa Mesa. He also leaves behind an extended group of family and friends. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care given to Rick by the ICU nursing staff at San Joaquin Hospital. We especially want to thank Denise in the step down unit for her sincere kindness and support. Visitation is Monday, April 13th, from 5-8 p.m., at Kern River Family Mortuary, 1900 N. Chester Ave. A Graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd. on Tuesday, April 14th, at 10:00 a.m.
