Janice Marie Redmond(1939 - 2013)

Janice Marie Redmond September 9, 1939 - May 22, 2013 Janice was born, Janice Marie Dame, on September 9, 1939 in Malone, New York. Her parents were Alvena Soulia and Edward Dame. Janice lived in upstate New York, in an area referred to as "The French Settlement" during her childhood. She spent her early years being doted on by her two brothers, Edward and Lawrence. She lived in Syracuse, New York where the first three of her nine children, Mary Louise, Domenica, and Dominic were born. She left Syracuse with the love of her life, William Stanley Norman Redmond, and headed for the West Coast. Bakersfield, California became their home in 1972. As their love grew, so did their family. William Jr., Sean, Renee, Jennifer, Camille, and then Gordon. The blessings of motherhood continued to come. Her greatest joy in life was her family and each of her children are a testimony to this. Janice's days were filled with serving others. Whether it was her husband and 9 children, her many friends, the priests she was devoted to, the Catholic churches in our community or simply blessing others with homemade food, her heart was always full. Janice expressed her love through cooking and feeding the masses. She created an extended family of love using her gourmet cooking skills as the foundation. One of her favorite pastimes was gambling. She could be in Las Vegas or Lemoore, or playing Bingo in Bakersfield; either way you can bet there would be a smile on her face. She shared this passion with a few dear friends, many friends on "the bus", and a few of her children. Janice's faith in God and Devotion to her Catholic faith sustained her throughout her life. She is survived by her loving husband, her 9 children, 19 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and her East Coast family. She has joined her grandson along with the family and priests she missed so deeply, in Heaven. Janice will be remembered most for her unshakable strength, vigor for life, wisdom and breathtaking beauty. To say that she will be missed is the understatement of a lifetime.
