Jessie Conchetti Ackerley 1923- 2011 Behind every seamstress is a huge pile of fabric. ~Unknown Jessie Conchetti Ackerley, age 87, died Thursday June 9, 2011 at her residence in Rio Bravo, following a brief battle with lymphoma. She was born Jessie Conchetti Olivieri in Bakersfield, California November 24, 1923 to the late Antonio and Joseppini Olivieri in the Convent of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. She attended Fairfax elementary school through the eighth grade and graduated from Kern County Union High School in 1942. After graduating from high school Jessie moved to San Francisco where she worked as a telephone operator. On July 15, 1943 she married Paul Wallace Ackerley and lived at 2230 Geary Street in San Francisco California. Jessie briefly lived in White Bear Lake Minnesota and Long Beach California before settling with her family on their ranch in Bakersfield California. Jessie raised 6 children and worked as a self-taught seamstress at home and as a tailor at many clothing stores. From 1978 to 2008 she owned Central Tailor Shop in downtown Bakersfield where she earned a strong reputation for her dress making abilities including wedding gowns, bridesmaids dresses, formals and evening wear. She also provided a line of tailor made business suits and dress shirts for many of Bakersfield's top businessmen. She also enjoyed her part time job of 10 years with SMG at Rabobank Arena, taking tickets and working security. Jessie is survived by her children, Mike and his spouse Jeanne, Jody and her spouse Hugh, Tom and his spouse Kim, Charles and his spouse Megan, and Karen Ackerley, 14 grand children, 18 great grand children, brother Mike Olivieri, sister Emma Gaines, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Jessie was preceded in death by her son John, husband Paul, brother Charlie, and sister Mary. Funeral services for Jessie Conchetti Ackerley will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday June 17 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. A Private entombment will follow.
