Joaquina Luna Lopez(1935 ~ 2012)

Joaquina Luna Lopez "Jackie" 1935 ~ 2012 After her fight with thyroid cancer, Joaquina (Jackie) Luna Lopez, 77, was carried home to Heaven by Angels on December 1, 2012. She was born in Taft, Texas, on August 16, 1935, to Miguel and Gregoria Duran. She attended school until the 6th grade, when she started working to help her dad support their family. At the age of 23, she was married in a court service and then 3 months later had a church wedding to her loving husband, Frank Lopez. They shared 54 years of marriage and during that time had two sons, John and Daniel. (Daniel passed away at the age of 33.) Five years ago, they adopted a mixed breed Chihuahua, Ewok, who brought so much joy and love to her and Frank. Ewok has truly become a member of the family. During their marriage, they lived in the towns of Pixley, Earlimart, McFarland, Arvin, and then finally Bakersfield. She was employed with D.M. Camp, working at many different types of jobs, ranging from working in the grape fields to being a supervisor in the potato shed. Jackie enjoyed giving to others. She served as a volunteer with the Volunteer Center of Kern County, the Superior Court, Bakersfield's Medical Center, and at bingo. She served as the CCD coordinator in Arvin, Adoration and Eucharistic minister at St. Francis of Assisi, and enjoyed the Golden Agers group. After learning the importance of God late in her life, her biggest joy was spreading the Word of God. She wanted to make up for the lost time by sharing God's Word to everyone who would listen. She loved being around people and always enjoyed making a new friend. She also enjoyed going to the casino with family and friends. She was known for making beautiful wedding cakes and a variety of other cakes, and also her ability to make tasty tamales, which were in high demand during holidays. Making ceramics was another hobby that she enjoyed. Joaquina is survived by her husband, Frank; son, John; daughters-in-law, Cathy and Irene; grandchildren, Matthew, Valerie, Chelsea, and Caleb; sisters, Lucy Sanchez, Susie Macias, and Sophie Duran; brothers, Guadencio Duran, Sam Duran, and Mike Duran. She was preceded in death by her parents, Miguel and Gregoria Duran; son, Daniel Lopez; and her brother, Phillip Duran.
