John Patrick Chapman(1949 - 2013)

John Patrick Chapman December 16, 1949 - February 3, 2013 John Patrick Chapman was born on December 16, 1949 in Bakersfield, California to Darwin Vincent and Margaret Ann Graham Chapman. He graduated from West High School in 1968. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the Navy and served our country during the Vietnam conflict. After his military service, John went on to achieve a degree in Biblical Studies from Calvary Chapel Bible College, and also achieved a degree in Physical Education from California State University, Bakersfield. During the past 10 years, John (known as Pat by many of his family and friends) served as an equipment manager for the Bakersfield College athletic department, working with hundreds of student athletes during that time. He was energetic, hard-working and had an innate ability to bring a smile to the faces of those he encountered. John loved to run and enjoyed watching and talking about sports, especially Bakersfield College athletics. John had many friends and everyone that knew him, loved him. John is preceded in death by his parents, Darwin (Chappie) and Margaret (Peggy) Chapman, and his wife, Mimi Chapman. He is survived by his daughters, Jessica and Kristen Chapman, his siblings and their spouses, Michele and Lonnie Pace, Michael and Joyce Chapman, Timothy and Linka Chapman, Mary and Thomas Poole, and James Chapman, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10 am on Friday, February 8th. at the Bakersfield National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bakersfield College Foundation in the name of the John Chapman Memorial Scholarship, 1801 Panorama Drive, Bakersfield, CA 93305. A reception will be held after the service at Bakersfield College in the Fireside Room from 12-2 pm.
