Judith (Judy) Ann Johnson
May 26, 1947 – October 12, 2012
Born to George Robert Smith and Ida Mae Sparling in Bakersfield, California. Judy graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1965. She married William Ryken in 1969. She married Thomas E. Johnson in 1974. Judy had a creative soul and enjoyed many things such as cooking, canning, painting, and creating beautiful floral displays. She had numerous jobs but her passion was her family and her 2nd children, her Labrador Retrievers. Judy spent many years volunteering in the Stine School Parent Club along with being a soccer, baseball, football, bowling, and softball Mom.
Judy and Tom spent many years active in Bobby Sox softball meeting lifelong friends whom they enjoyed going to the beach with, playing horseshoes and golfing. Judy was amazing in the kitchen and won many awards for her jellies at the Kern County Fair; she looked forward to this each year and she and Tom spent many hours together to get it 'just right'. She loved to get in the motor home with Tom and travel across the county visiting friends and family. She was an active participant in her BHS Class Reunions which kept her in contact with lifelong friends. She played Bunco for most of her adult life with a great group of women she loved. Judy was preceded in death by her father, George Robert Smith.
She is survived by her Mother, Ida Mae Smith; Husband of 38 years, Thomas E. Johnson; Daughter, Heidi D. Ryken; Son, Heath R. Johnson and Wife Veronica; Granddaughter, Taylor E. Johnson; Brother, George Robert (Bob) Smith, Jr and Wife, Barbara Smith; Sister-in-Law, Vickie Handy and Sister-in-Law, Elly Queen along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Per Judy's wishes, there will be no public service. A gathering for family and friends will be announced at a later date.
