Lula Mae Kelley "Susie Flournoy" November 24, 1932 - August 22, 2013 Lula Mae Kelly, 80, of Bakersfield, died Thursday, August 22, 2013, She was born to the late Lacy and Lillie Belle Flournoy on November 24, 1932 in La Mesa, Ne Mexico, relocating to Wasco, CA as a young girl attending local elementary and high schools. Lula later in life received a therapist certificate from Azusa Pacific College. Lula retired from Kern Medical Center in 1998 after 30 years of service working the majority of that time on 3B with mental patients. Lula had an affinity for people and was blesses with the gift of empathy and compassion for others. Lula is preceded in death by her son Donald Brian Davis; brothers Lacy, Jay, Cecil, Shorty and Harry. She is survived by her daughter Sheryl Brady Mitchell, Bakersfield, CA; sons Corey and Curtis Davis, Bakersfield, CA, and Rodney Brady (Dee) of Tacoma, WA; sisters Lillie Williams of Delano, CA and Ernestine Cordell of Los Angeles, CA. Lula also leaves 21 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. A special thank you to Dr. Navin Amin who has taken care of our mother for over 15 years. We would also like to give special thanks to Hoffman Hospice, Mark, Debbie, Kathy, Ann, Judy and other staff, who provided daily care for mother for the last 4 months. There will be a viewing at Beloved Care Funeral Home, 711 Brundage Lane, on Thursday, August 29, from 4:10 -7:00 with a wake at 10:00 on August 30, 2013. A memorial celebration of Lula's life will be held at 10 a.m. in Bakersfield, CA on Friday, August 30, 2013 at The People's Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1451 Madison Street. Graveside services to follow at Greenlawn Mortuary and Cemetery, 2739 Panama Lane. Repast will be provided at the church Kimbrough Fellowship Hall.
